THE MARPA BUDDHIST CENTRE INTRODUCES
A WEEKEND RETREAT WITH
LAMA CHOEDAK RINPOCHE
FREEDOM WITH THE WINGS OF COMPASSION AND WISDOM
3rd- 4th March 2018
As a bird can fly in the vast sky with two wings, a person’s life is good if he knows how to combine compassion and wisdom. In Buddhism, the left wing of life consist of giving, self-discipline, tolerance, diligence, concentration and the right wing is represented by wisdom. These six qualities are known as ‘Six Paramitas’ in Buddhism. The first five of these common values advocated by most spiritual traditions are known as the ‘method’. But without wisdom, people try to practice them and due to clinging to self and mine, one can become poisoned by one’s grasping, which in turn harms all who are involved. The anger, guilt, resentment and disappointment are all caused by lack of wisdom. Without wisdom, one’s giving and diligence becomes the cause of deep hurt and despair.
In Buddhism, the teachings on the Six Paramitas are crucial in elucidating the importance of combining the first five Paramitas with the 6th, the wisdom discerning lack of inherent existence of self. ‘Giving to get’ is so toxic like a one winged bird trying to fly. Depression and resentment are not caused by lack of compassion, but lack of wisdom, the ability to let go and be free of self grasping. Known as ‘Bodhisattva Training’, it is all focused on how to practice the Six Paramitas.
One can only learn this exclusive teachings from the most eloquent Buddhist teacher, it will empower you to transcend all the problems caused by self-clinging and embrace the gem of the right way to live with this awakening awareness in everyday life. All are welcome.
When: 3rd & 4th March 2018
Time: 8.30am-4.00pm Saturday and 9.30am-5.00pm Sunday
